Why Socialism Can GET LOST!
Socialism Is Morally Wrong Yet Sanctimonious
Socialism is driven by the idea of “equality of outcome”. It is the idea that no matter of your life experiences, decisions, or flaws, you deserve free stuff just because you’re alive. People who believe in socialism generally believe in redistribution of wealth, which in my opinion is cruel and evil. It is the idea that all the rich people in the world must be stealing from the poor and all their money should be stolen from them and given to the poor. This idea is taught from a very young age to children through stories such as Robin Hood (which they misinterpret – Robin Hood actually stole from government, not the wealthy individuals). It teaches children that the rich and prosperous are sinister masterminds who plot to rob from the pockets of the poor.
There are two major flaws to this. Number one, the poor don’t have any money to steal. Number two, People make money by exchanging goods and services with other people who have money through supply and demand and finding gaps in the market, or through innovation, convenience and necessity. Not by plotting against the un-wealthy. Socialists also think that they have a right to dictate what each person needs and can have. The idea is to limit the wealth and resources a person can acquire by telling them that they have enough and don’t need anything more. Of course, this is wrong because a person should be able to prosper if they work hard. They shouldn’t be strangled and have their personal fortune constricted because another human being has decided that they believe you are not eligible to possess or accumulate more. It leaves no incentive for people to put effort into their work. This would lead to a slowing of world growth because innovation would be suppressed and funding for research in different areas would be halted. What I mean by this is that in a socialist society, there would be no-one to invest money into businesses and organizations because there wouldn’t be anyone who could afford to. Key research that leads to the invention or discovery of new things would not take place as quickly. The rich invest. The poor do not. The rich fund research. The poor do not. This is overlooked heavily. Cancer researchers will not be tirelessly looking for cures for free, who will fund their equipment and research? Where will the motivation come from? Socialists like to believe that everybody will suddenly forget about wealth and do their jobs regardless of the fact they are not progressing up the financial ladder. Incentive is the most influential factor in motivating a human to carry out a certain task.
This theory that there is an evil man who is rubbing his hands together trying to steal that measly £12.27 out of your bank out is irrational. People become rich through good decisions, good fortune, or through accumulated wealth passed down by family. Nobody is denying that there are thieves out there, and nobody is denying that there are individual cases of somebody benefiting economically through the persecution of another individual or group of people. These cases are rare and cannot be used to prove that the rich are just “greedy capitalists”.
What makes a person deserve free money because they are poor? Did they earn it? Possibly not. People should earn prosperity, this is achieved by offering society a benefit or service. They shouldn’t be handed wealth and resources because this leaves no incentive for them to learn skills in which they can use to help benefit society. There are of course cases of people having genuine strokes of bad fortune and them deserving aid. Army veterans are left homeless in the majority of such cases, but these people don’t deserve help just because they are poor. They deserve help because they served in the armed forces and made a selfless contribution to society. The majority of cases when a person is poor, their whole life was due to their own decisions. An American research centre released a report that states that if you finish high school, get a job, and don’t have children before marriage, you have a very likely chance of becoming prosperous in America. This is the case also in the United Kingdom and many other 1st world countries. In fact, this research showed that only 2% of people who follow these steps will stay poor their whole life.
The reality is, if you do well in school, hold down a job, and don’t have children before marriage, you will likely do well for yourself. Nobody is taking opportunities away from you. It is on you to take control of your life and put in the work to succeed. Socialism offers no incentive to work. Its goal is not to make everyone equally rich. Its goal is to make everyone equally poor. Capitalism promotes the opposite. It promotes economic growth for those who have something to offer society, whether that is a service or a product. In fact, capitalism has been the single biggest driving factor in economic growth worldwide. It has pulled millions out of poverty and it has allowed second and third world countries to start developing and begin taking advantage of the benefits of the modern world.
People should not be given free money and resources just because they are alive. They should be given prosperity based on what they bring to the table and what benefits they can offer society. Therefore, I proclaim, socialism can get lost!
