YI ELECTIONS: Starting Pistol Fired As Nominations Open
It has been a long wait with more than a few false starts but the election process for Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson of UKIP’s youth wing, Young Independence has finally begun. Nominations formally opened yesterday evening with the distribution of an email outlining the rules and regulations, processes and outlining the much-coveted timetable.
In summary, we will know the final list of confirmed candidates on November 25th. Two days later, the manifestos of all the eligible candidates will be emailed to the YI membership. Campaigning ends on December 1st with voting beginning immediately afterward. It ends on December 5th and we will get a result the same day by 5 pm.
All-in-all it is something of a truncated election process and maybe that is for the best. We have just had an exhausting and bitter leadership contest and another long, drawn-out slugfest this year is not what the Party really needs. It is important that YI gets its house in order and this is part of that process, however, it is also important this is done in the right way and one that is not totally detrimental to still-fragile Party morale.
I spoke to two of the prospective candidates for Chair and they were understandably delighted to be getting underway.

This is an interesting time for the youth wing; we must choose the right person to lead us forward or it could mean the end. I am confident that YI members will make the right choice and I am sure it will be an interesting and exciting couple of weeks.

I am delighted to see that the long-awaited YI elections are finally underway, after much anticipation and speculation. I look forward to the election but at the same time think that it is vital for the future of YI, and indeed UKIP, that these elections are fair and the principle that UKIP is supposed to hold dear, namely freedom of speech, is upheld and maintained throughout.
Kipper Central will be providing you with full coverage of these crucial elections for the future of YI so keep your eyes peeled for more news upcoming!!
