Patel: Tell The EU To SOD OFF!
Former Cabinet Minister, Priti Patel has lifted the lid on a government that is “ill-equipped” to deal with the Brexit negotiations and said that Britain should tell the EU to “sod off” when it comes to its demand that Britain pay a ‘divorce bill’
Speaking at an event in London organised by The Spectator magazine Monday, Ms. Patel said:
“We should have had conviction and clarity in terms of our end state and destination and presented that and been pretty forthright about it as well.
“My views on money are pretty clear, I don’t like spending money so I would have told the EU, in particular, to ‘sod off’ with their excessive financial demands.”
Ms. Patel was a refreshing voice of defiance yesterday as other senior Conservative Brexiteers rolled over and backed the PM. Boris Johnson said that the payment was worth making to “get the ship off the rocks”. Yet another Boris Johnson u-turn, previously, the Foreign Secretary had said the EU could “go whistle” for extra money.
Mr Johnson said:
“What we want to see is progress towards the second phase of the negotiations… It’s a fantastic opportunity now to get going. We’ve been waiting for this for a long time – 18 months or so. Now is the moment to get the ship off the rocks and move it forwards.”
Opposition to the sell-out was more forthcoming from Conservative backbenches. Jacob Rees-Mogg spoke for many when he articulated a “growing concern that Her Majesty’s Government seems in these negotiations to be dancing to the tune of the European Commission”.
Enough is enough. This government can not be trusted to deliver Brexit and has consistently sold out the British people. The opposition needs to be vocal and active and organised to ensure that they do not get away with this abject betrayal.
