Jacob Rees BLASTS BBC’s Marr: We MUST Leave the EU in 2019
Appearing on the Andrew Marr show yesterday (Sunday), the well-spoken Jacob ‘Moggy’ Rees-Mogg hit out at Theresa May’s plans to keep Britain in the EU, saying that we must not be tied to the EU any longer after the date we leave.
Speaking to the BBC, he said that we must not pretend to be part of the supranational bloc but instead must “implement” the Brexit vote on the date set out originally by the government.
The North Somerset MP also hit out at the so-called “transition period” which he claimed is nothing more than a “misleading” excuse to keep us tied to our shackles in the EU.
He was also asked by Andrew Marr about a letter to the government which he signed calling for no more EU payments, no free movement, no European Court of Justice jurisdiction and the ability to sign trade deals around the world, to which he said that it is important not to throw funds away to the EU.
He said: “We’ll have actually left in March 2019. The Prime Minister used to refer very carefully to an implementation period and that meant the we had left in 2019, but implementing the consequences of leaving.
“Now everyone seems to be talking about transition, which means transitioning from in the European Union to out of the European Union.
“That delays our departure for two years.”
