Agnew Blasts EU ‘Colonial Masters’ As Attempt Made To Keep Control Of British Fishing Waters
Stuart Agnew, UKIP MEP and Agriculture Spokesperson has blasted Eurocrats for behaving like “colonial masters” in their attempt to retain control of British fishing waters.
Speaking at the December session of the European Parliament, he raged:
“Quite simply the European Union thinks it knows best. It thinks it is entitled to impose its thinking on others as with Brexit, so in the worlds oceans and seas.
This is the thinking of colonialism. And I am not a bit surprised that these colonial masters have no plans to hand back the UK fishing waters post-Brexit”
British fisherman have lobbied the British government to exclude the fishing industry from the two-year transition period as the Common Fisheries Policy [CFP] has put many of their livelihoods in jeopardy. Bertie Armstrong, Chief Executive of the Scottish Fishermans Federation said that negotiating the end of the CFP should take no more than nine months and not be seen as an excuse to extend EU control by another two years.
