REMOANING FAKE NEWS: Lammy Gets It Wrong On Blue Passports
David Lammy took to Twitter to bemoan the “£500 Million cost to the taxpayer” of the new blue, post-Brexit British passport. However, in doing so he quickly inserted his foot into his mouth and showed just how deceitful Remoaners can be, in fact, their philosophy is why let facts spoil a good old Remoan?
In order to assist Mr Lammy, we have assembled some facts for him;
FACT: The contract for producing passports is up for renewal in…..you guessed it…..2019. The value of this new contract is estimated to be around the £490 million mark, which is where Mr Lammy get’s his figure from but it is a cost that the taxpayer was always going to incur as this is when the contract had to be renewed (the current contract, with De La Rue, was signed in 2010, well before Brexit).
FACT: Passport redesigns happen roughly every 5 years as a matter of standard practice to enhance security and as the last one happened in 2015, it would have been due in 2020 in any case.
Almost disturbing as Mr Lammy’s comments are the fact that this misinformation gained so much traction on Twitter giving his opinion some spurious credence.
Meanwhile, Nigel Farage welcomed the change calling it the first real “tangible victory”:
“We are told we are going to get our passports back. It’s the first real tangible victory that we have had since that referendum and it’s something that we should celebrate.”
Hear hear Nigel! It certainly is a worthy ‘Brexmas’ gift, one that not even the Lammy shaped Grinch should be allowed to take away from the British people.
