Former Treasury Chief: Brexit Will NOT Harm UK Economy Despite Remoaner Fears
Lord Nick Macpherson, the Treasury’s top civil servant just last year, has hit out at the fearmongering from remoaners, saying: “If the Government relentlessly focuses on achievable outcomes in Brussels and pursues a sensible economic policy at home, it could yet keep any lasting damage from Brexit to a minimum. But that remains a pretty big ‘if.’”
The remain camp were very keen on creating fear around the financial impact of Brexit, but it has now become clear that their claims were nothing more than shameless fearmongering!
Lord Macpherson also tweeted: “Brexit is a risk but its economic impact should be limited provided [the government] seizes policy opportunity and looks forward not back.”
It appears that this is a rather large U-turn from when Macpherson was leading the Treasury since they published a report while he was top dog which claimed that the average household would be £4,300 worse off after Brexit. It would appear that he is rather more optimistic now that he’s seen the real results of last year’s vote.
However, he does believe that the UK should hold close ties with the supranational bloc after we leave, despite the fact that the British people clearly disagree with him.
