‘You Risk Civil Disobedience!!’ – Humphrys SLAMS Blair
Tony Blair has been doing the media rounds again today in a ritual resurrection of the political dead that seems set to continue throughout 2018. However, he got more than he bargained for when he was interviewed by John Humphrys on BBC Radio 4.
Mr Blair was toeing the same old tired party line that people did not understand the ‘historic implications’ of the Brexit vote. Humphrys, however, blasted back:
“You risk civil disobedience here. This is serious stuff, it really is.
“We told people we are going to give you a referendum and the choice will be ‘in or out’ and we will respect, we made that promise, we will accept your decision.
“You are now saying: ‘actually, maybe not.’”
Mr Blair lamely protested that he did accept the result, however;
Once the debate is put before the people, they are entitled to think again. Why shouldn’t we be entitled?
“As the debate proceeds, when we see what the alternative is, we are entitled to say we don’t believe that’s what’s best for our country.”
Humphrys was ready with the perfect comeback:
We have voted in this House of Commons with a very clear mandate to see through the results of the Referendum.
“We have a result, it is now their job to see it through. That’s what democracy is about.”
I am sure we can all agree it is about time that Mr Blair was put in his place and take a bow Mr Humphrys for doing a sterling job of doing exactly that in front of the nation.
