Police Investigating After Mogg Caught Up In Violent Leftist Protest At University
Avon and Somerset Police Force are now investigating an incident at the University of the West of England last night in which Tory MP Jacob Rees-Mogg was in the middle of a scuffle between his supporters and so-called ‘AntiFa’, who are supposedly campaigning against fascism.
A number of videos have since emerged on social media of the fracas, in which Mr Rees-Mogg is seen to approach protesters at his speech and attempt to debate them, but his calm-mannered arguments are drowned out by chants of ‘homophobe’, ‘racist’ and ‘fascist’ from the leftists.
However, it appears that the leftists next resort to violence, pushing and throwing punches at Mr Rees-Mogg’s backers, who seem to fight back.
Rees-Mogg first tries to separate the two battling sides by putting his arms between them and shouting ‘everyone calms down!’ but his efforts make little difference as the fighting escalates.
Eventually, Mr Rees-Mogg appears to push one of the leftists away from his supporters after the leftist appears to throw punches at them.
In a statement, Avon and Somerset Police said:
“We were called to the University of the West of England’s Frenchay campus at about 6.30pm today following a report of a public order incident.
“No arrests were made and an investigation is under way to see if any criminal offences were committed.
“If anyone has mobile phone footage they feel would help our inquiry, please call 101 and give the log number 844 of February 2.”
