WATCH: “Will you SACK your vice-chairman?!” – Prescott SLAMS Tory Chairman Over Corbyn Spy Rumours
Former Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott hit out at Conservative Party Chairman Brandon Lewis last night, arguing that he should have sacked his Vice Chairman who accused Jeremy Corbyn of selling state secrets to Czech spies at the height of the cold war.
The show, based in Staffordshire, featured panellists Brandon Lewis, John Prescott, Juergen Maier, Camilla Tominey and Ash Sarkar.
Prescott said: “What annoys me most is that basically you, Brandon was the one that came in office a couple of weeks – and I have this statement here so it’s not “fake news”; it’s your statement which sets the new respect pledge for Tory candidates.
Mr Prescott continued: “And what it says here – ‘Conservative candidates will be suspended if they insult rivals the new party Chairman says’
“Fine. That was straight. I was hoping that that might be so.
“But now you’ve got top people in the Tory party lined up with the papers themselves – the right-wing papers – to say that he’s a traitor, a double agent. This is unacceptable!
“Now I want to say that your Vice Chairman who you appointed made these statements about if he was selling British secrets to communist spies.
“My God, there’s no evidence for that, nobody’s produced any evidence.
“Will you now, under this new program of better moral standards, will you now sack your Vice Chairman who said those things without evidence?”
He attempted to hand Mr Lewis the statement but host David Dimbleby interjected to let him respond.
