REPORT BOMBSHELL: Labour-Run Sunderland Council ‘Inadequate’ – Corruption Investigation Ongoing
It’s recently been announced that Sunderland Council has been rated as ‘inadequate’ by an Ofsted report in February of 2018. And while for many, myself included, this does not come as a surprise, it’s important to look at the potential motives and reasons behind why this has happened.
Sunderland Council is currently undergoing a corruption investigation by an independent law firm called Wilkin Chapman. This was started in August of 2017, and was supposed to last no longer than a few weeks. According to Council staff, it is allegedly ongoing still today and the results have yet to be given to the Council. However, I very strongly feel that this is not the case, and instead I believe three key areas of corruption have been discovered in this report:
- Financial Corruption
- Planning Corruption
- Land Sell off Corruption
I also believe that despite promising to disclose the report once completed, the Council are currently hiding it because of these facts which have been uncovered. However the corruption in Sunderland goes far deeper than simply surface level. During a recent by-election in Pallion ward, Sunderland MP Julie Elliott and her son, Cllr Miles Elliott, have had the Police confiscate several people’s computers and phones for examination, my own included, because they dislike the Facebook posts we are making about herself, the Labour Party and its candidates in Sunderland. Indeed, this goes even further than this, with potential criminal charges into ‘Electoral offences’ for us doing so.
In 2015, following an Ofsted report that laid bare the failures of staff and leaders, it was announced that Sunderland’s entire Children’s Services would be taken over by Government for failing to protect children. Inspectors uncovered ‘widespread and serious failures that leave children unsafe and mean that the welfare of children looked after is not adequately safeguarded’ by the Council. Managers and senior councillors were singled out for criticism, with services for care leavers and poorly managed support for children at risk of sexual exploitation also highlighted.
The scale of the problems were revealed in serious case reviews released late November 2015, which revealed missed opportunities to support families of two baby girls. One died after she was found drowning in the bath, while another was seriously injured by her father, who had a history of violence. Cllr Patricia Smith, who ran the Children’s services at the time, was only removed from her post following her re-election in May 2016, still sits on the Council representing Silksworth Ward, and was only moved to the Scrutiny Committee for Children’s Services.
In the recent 2018 Ofsted report marked as ‘inadequate’, risks of radicalisation were also indicated.
Freedom of Information requests revealed the Council spent at least £47 MILLION (now believed by some people to be £56 million) in the last 6 years on “Settlement Agreements” – legally binding agreements with Council employees where the employee is given a negotiated redundancy sum – effectively ‘gagging orders’. What are the Council hiding? Instead of being used on retaining weekly bin collections, cleaning roads or looking after our communities, YOUR MONEY is being used on preventing former Sunderland Council employees from speaking out.
Sunderland Council are also WASTING the money they have available on unnecessary things and blaming the Government for cuts. In 2016, the top 100 Council employees cost the taxpayer £9,219,000 (£9.2 MILLION). In 2014/15, the allowances pocketed by Sunderland Councillors in some cases was 50 times higher than Councillors in Newcastle despite Sunderland paying a lower basic allowance per councillor than Newcastle – a total expenses bill of £1.1 MILLION in 2014/15. The Council DECLINED TO COMMENT. Whether it’s £5,000 per year on free food for Councillors, £180,000 on boulevard trees imported from Holland for the City Centre (which are dying due to neglect) or £258,697 supporting unions – the TRUTH is not that the Council has no money, just that they are abusing and misusing it.
The Council are unnecessarily planning to build hundreds of new houses all over Sunderland, ‘hoovering up’ our green spaces and green belt land while the population of Sunderland has been dropping consistently for many years. No greater example of this is present than on the land next to Weardale Avenue in Seaburn, which is owned by the University. This is Greenspace land and as such building restrictions apply, but the Council are planning to build stables in one small corner of the field which would re-designate the entire field as a brownfield site. This would lift building restrictions and allow housing to be built on that land – a planning process which has been called ‘bent and deceitful’ and ‘manipulative and false’. Whether it’s in Washington, Houghton or even Seaburn, the Council are selling off land- at best very badly ripping the taxpayer off- and building unnecessary housing while the population is dropping. With already considerably more houses than people to fill them within the city; what are they aware of that we aren’t?
The fact remains that there are many outstanding allegations against Sunderland Council that simply cannot be answered. With 67 of 75 seats on the Council, the Labour Party are destroying our city, and all for their own purposes. With this in mind is it any wonder that the latest Ofsted report is rated as JUST inadequate? Freedom of speech is totally gone in Sunderland, and anyone who speaks out against the establishment is interrogated by the Police under caution at the behest of Sunderland Labour, and Labour Party Police and Crime Commissioner for Northumbria Police Vera Baird. A person who described Labour Police and Crime Commissioners at Labour Party conference in 2016 as a ‘permanent part of Labour in Government, using Labour values to transform crime prevention and community safety‘.
