WATCH: Jacob Rees-Mogg Defend Free Speech
When Jacob Rees-Mogg spoke on the Second Reading of the Data Protection Bill, 5th March 2018 he made an impassioned defence of press freedom. He said that critical press coverage was the “flotsam and jetsam” of political life. He noted that dictatorships maintained the “pretence” of free speech while exercising the “reality of control”. Free speech, Mr Rees-Mogg is the “pillar of democracy”. A patriot and a staunch defender of our essential freedoms – it is not hard to see why Mr Rees-Mogg enjoys such popularity outside the Westminster bubble.
