BREXIT BETRAYAL: Tony Blair URGES Merkel’s Germany To BLOCK Brexit
Former Prime Minister Tony Blair has urged Germany to help him reverse the UK’s decision to leave the EU, following intense divisions within his own party over whether or not to accept Brexit.
Mr Blair, best known for misleading the public over the Iraq war, has been a leading voice for the EU from the time the referendum began and has never accepted the final outcome of the vote.
In a final attempt to stop the will of the people, the former Labour leader has desperately urged Angela Merkel, Germany’s Chancellor, to do all she can to assist him.
Speaking to Business Insider’s German edition, he said: “It would be a mistake of historic proportions if the United Kingdom leaves the European Union.
“Even Europe – especially Germany – has a lot to lose. It is in all our interests to maintain barrier-free trade across the continent and to hold liberal democracies together in times when authoritarian structures are resurgent.
“Germany should do everything possible to keep the UK in the EU.”
Advising for the best approach to supressing the vote, he insisted that Germany should try to work with France and other EU nations to make change within the supranational bloc.
This change, he argued, would show Britain that the EU is open to reform and therefore would tempt the nation back.
