Obsessed By The EU! – Rees-Mogg BLASTS Remoaning Peers
The pressure for abolition of the House Of Lords was mounting last night as senior Brexiteers and Conservative MP’s lined-up to demand change led by Jacob Rees-Mogg. Mr Rees-Mogg blasted Peers, who have inflicted 14 defeats on the flagship Brexit Bill, saying they are “completely obsessed” with the EU:
“They are completely obsessed by the European Union.
“They are people who have devoted their whole life to it. Their whole aim is to stop Brexit.”
The leader of the influential pro-Brexit European Research Group said that the House Of Lords is not a “loved” institution and that it is only “tolerated” as long as it obeys “constitutional norms”. He warned Peers that their actions have left the Lords with “very few” supporters.
Cabinet Minister and Leader Of The Commons, Andrea Leadsom told Peers it is “not their job” to undermine the will of the majority of the British people who voted to leave the EU. Former Conservative leader Iain Duncan Smith said there must now be a ‘reckoning’ and total overhaul of the second chamber. Conservative MP Daniel Kawczynski said that Peers are “out of control” and their actions are “unforgivable”. He called for the abolition of the Lords to be in the next Conservative manifesto.
MPs are set to debate a petition calling for a referendum on future of the House Of Lords on June 18th.
