“We’ve Gone Too Far!”: House of Lords Leader BLASTS Remoaner Peers
The leader of the House of Lords, Baroness Evans, yesterday hit out at her fellow Peers, accusing them of attempting to “undermine” the 2016 Brexit vote.
Speaking on ITV’s ‘Peston on Sunday’, she said: “I don’t think that these wreck the bill as such but I certainly think that some of them undermine Brexit and I’m disappointed that a number of these amendments have gone through.”
“We play an important scrutinising role but in some cases we have gone too far.
“In fact, some of the amendments had nothing to do with the bill, which is to ensure we have a functioning legal system after we leave the EU.”
“Our role is to ask the Commons to think again.
“We’ve now handed over these amendments to the House of Commons – or in fact we will do when the bill is passed in the Lords on Wednesday – and it is now for them to decide.
She added: “If the Commons chooses not to accept the amendments made by the Lords, I fully expect the Lords to respect the primacy of the Commons and the will of the people who voted to leave the EU.”
