‘CARRY ON BRUSSELS’ – Batten Slams “Sneering” Lib Dems
Gerard Batten will feature in Channel 4’s new series Carry on Brussels. Mr Batten, the UKIP Leader, is one of a group of MEPs featured on the show which documents their preparations for Brexit.
In the program, Mr Batten tells an anecdote which brilliantly exposes the complete lack of patriotism amoungst the Liberal Democrats, the only mainstream Party to openly campaign for a second referendum. Explaining their loss of seats in London, where Mr Batten is an MEP, he said;
“The leader of the Liberal Democrats MEPs sneered and said ‘Look at them putting out their sandcastle flags’.
“And I thought you are going to regret that one day, sneering at our flags.
“And of course, the most enjoyable night that I have ever had since I have been an MEP was on election night in 2014, when all the Liberal Democrats bar one lost their seats.
“That is what you get for sneering at our national flag.”
He also hit out at Remainers for making an issue of the Customs Union:
“This whole thing is a non-issue which is being conflated and blown up by the people that don’t really want to leave the European Union anyway i.e. most of the British political establishment in order to try and delay it long enough to stop it happening.
“Look at all the countries that trade with the European Union that are not in the European Union.”
“Something like three percent of the containers going in and out of the European Union from outside is actually subject to any physical checks.”
The first episode of carrying on Brussels will air tonight at 10pm on Channel 4.
