GERMAN CRISIS: Trump Says Germans ‘Turning Against Merkel’ Over Immigration
President Trump dramatically stepped into the political crisis last night by Tweeting that Germans are ‘turning against Merkel’ over the migration crisis:
The people of Germany are turning against their leadership as migration is rocking the already tenuous Berlin coalition. Crime in Germany is way up. Big mistake made all over Europe in allowing millions of people in who have so strongly and violently changed their culture!

The Alternative For Germany (AfD) is pushing Merkel’s coalition partners the Christian Social Union (CSU) hard in Bavarian state elections due to be held in October. They had been pushing for a tougher immigration including plans to send back asylum seekers registered in other EU states to these respective countries. However, Merkel pleaded for extra time to hammer out a deal with Italy and Greece.

Running scared of early elections which would most likely lead to strong AfD gains, the CSU has tonight backed down and given Merkel two weeks to negotiate a European wide arrangement. However, this is a crisis that has just been postponed as her only hope of survival is to negotiate a settlement with populist led Italy, Austria and Greece whose government is unlikely to be feeling in a cooperative mood given the swinging austerity German debt recovery demands have imposed on the Greek people. It still looks like Angela Merkel’s days as Chancellor are numbered and if she falls it will be a major blow against Eurofederalism.
