BREXIT BETRAYAL: Brexit Department Under Threat For Being…..Too Pro Brexit
Last night Theresa May basically abolished Brexit and somewhat fittingly on the same day a story emerged which suggested she may abolish the Brexit department within government for being too pro-Brexit. Yes, you did read that right, you haven’t stumbled into an episode of The Thick Of It, this is really how the country is run.
A government paper has suggested that the Brexit department could be abolished next March as the Article 50 process formally comes to an end. The reason being given is that the departments did not see the Brexit department as an “honest broker” and a former minister said civil servants do not trust Mr Davis’s department to manage preparations.
Under the plan outlined in the paper a department within the Cabinet Office, which reports to the chief executive of the civil service John Manzoni and is headed up by Matthew Coats, the former chief operating officer at the Ministry of Justice, will take over the entire preparation for Britain’s exit from the EU.
However, the Department, currently headed by David Davis, denied that there had been any changes and that it had “oversight and coordination” of all Brexit planning.
