Independent Deletes Article Claiming Post-Brexit Border Checks Will Cost £9bn

The Independent, a left-wing, anti-Brexit paper, this morning reported that border checks – which would form part of the UK’s approach to lowering immigration levels – were estimated to cost the UK £9 billion.

However, for unclear reasons, they have deleted the article and have not published anything else about the story on their website since. You can see what used to be the article but is now a 404 error page here.

It would appear that the article was part of an attempt to smear Brexit with fake news, although it is unclear at this stage.

The article was featured under the “UK” section of Google News and was most likely seen by tens of thousands of people before being removed.
