Local Government Labour Omnishambles

Previously, we have reported that the Labour Party is making impressive headway in local by-elections. This is undoubtedly true. However, three stories from across the country show you should be very careful what you vote for as putting Labour in power doesn’t end well.

Starting in Hull, we have an impressive 8 Labour Councillors not seeking re-election. The reasons vary and are not particularly interesting in many ways but you can’t help but wonder what the hapless Councillor Korczak Fields has done to fall foul of the Corbynista Stasi. She is “suspended from the ruling Labour group at the Guildhall for internal party disciplinary issues.”

Crossing over to Bolton, things are a bit more serious. Cllr Ismail Ibrahim has been a bad lad. He failed to pay his council tax on-time twice and also failed his re-selection interview. However, it helps to have friends in high places. Council Leader Chris Morris backed Ibrahim’s appeal and;

Two high-ranking local Labour officials, who are understood to have questioned Cllr Ibrahim’s suitability to stand at next year’s local elections, have been ousted from their positions.

Obviously, the local Labour Party are fighting like the proverbial ferrets in a sack.

Birmingham is cursed with a similar affliction. Proving beyond reasonable doubt that Labour is literally rubbish in local government (see picture); a long-running dispute with bin workers has seen even Corbyn-supporting councillors savaged by Momentum. The handling of this dispute has been so incompetent that striking workers even managed to win a rare victory against the City Council in the High Court. Referring to a much-leaked feud between the former leader and interim Chief Executive, Mr Justice Fraser, said;

“Neither party comes out of this sorry saga with any credit at all – I could use the words remarkable, extraordinary and more”.

So, while the Labour juggernaut may look unstoppable, as we can see there is ample scope to challenge a record of bumbling incompetence which would make Basil Fawlty blush.

    First past the post is the life support system for both, the now discredited, two main parties. We need electoral reform as a matter of urgency in order to get back to our democratic ideals.
