London Fire Brigade: Fireman Sam Is Sexist & Disrespectful

In a surprising Twitter outburst yesterday afternoon, the London Fire Brigade claimed that the popular children’s’ television show, Fireman Sam, is “Sexist” and does not give firemen the “respect” they “deserve”.

The Tweet, which also seemed to treat the show as some sort of powerful political outlet, said the program – which been around since the 1980s – is “an influential kids cartoon about a bloke called Sam who is the only fireman in Britain”.

Of course, media reviewers, politicians and social scientists have gone wild with their claims for the Fire Brigade to replace them as they clearly are more qualified and experienced to talk about these matters, as shown by their self-described “award-winning” Twitter feed.

It would also appear that the organisation is trying to appear “hip” by using the hashtag #FirefightingSexism, which is quite possibly one of the most cringe-worthy hashtags to have ever appeared on the social network.

The show has previously been in trouble after a character was shown stepping on a page of the Quran.

What also seems clear is that they’ve not done their research because the ‘man’ ending of the word ‘fireman’ does not come from the male context of the word, but from the human context – meaning the term ‘man’ as a suffix is non-gender-specific and refers to mankind as a whole. In fact, the word dates back to the Proto-Germanic word for humans ‘manwaz’.

Perhaps it’s prime time that our Firemen (I take care not to say Firefighters) stuck to fighting fires and left the politics bit to the politicians and the people – who might stand a chance of doing a good job of it.

This is a classic example of the depths of politically correct horse shit that this country has stooped to in recent years. I can’t believe that red-blooded firemen (and women) support this embarrassing attempt to distort reality. What next? Putting a ban on Popeye, Bluto and Olive Oil due to sexist connotations? (sorry I mentioned that – some modernist liberal wimps might latch onto this as their next winge).
