YI ELECTIONS: YI Revival Win By 1 Vote
The election for Chair and Deputy Chairperson of UKIPs Youth Wing, Young Independence has certainly had an edge to it and no one can accuse it of being dull. Nate Rydings and Kipper Central‘s Reece Coombes, Team YI Revival, have won the election by one vote.
Nate and Reece took 35 votes with Jonathan Wood and Will Donnelly were one behind on 34 votes. A close race.
Jonathan Wood commented:
We are both very disappointed to have missed out on the Chairmanship of YI by one single vote. And yet at the same time, we are so proud that we sent such a strong message to the Ukip establishment. It was clear that from the very beginning of this election campaign Nathan and Reece were sure they would win by a landslide and I think the fact that we were able to reduce their share of the vote to just 50.7% is an incredible achievement. We do not regret a single thing that we said in this election campaign and we both firmly believe that we had the best vision to lift YI up. As our political lives now come to an end, we are so grateful to everyone who has been loyal and good to us throughout the last 3 and a half years.
Will Donnelly added:
I am bitterly disappointed to have lost out in this race, especially given how tight the result was. We have both dedicated days and weeks to this campaign which we believed would be the best for YI. I am particularly disappointed in the running of this election which has been truly woeful in every single regard. I will take a step back now and contemplate my political future before deciding what I shall do next.
Nate Rydings said:
Reece and I look forward to our year as YI Chairman and Deputy as we start to make Young Independence a modern, inclusive and radical youth wing. One of our aims is for ourselves or members of our exec (after those elections) to visit as many branches as possible, promoting the importance of YI and encouraging the recruitment of young members.
Reece Coombes added:
I’m so proud that the YI membership have elected Nate and I to lead our movement forward in this crucial stage of UKIP’s future! Over the next few days, we will be announcing the timetable for elections to the Executive and National Councils of YI, and I simply cannot wait to work with newly elected council to revive our excellent youth wing! With this result, the YI membership chose the politics of optimism, pragmatism and radicalism and that is what we will be bringing to the leadership of YI over the next year.
I am sure all our readers will join with me in commiserating with Jonathan and Will who fought a hard campaign and came very, very close as well as congratulating Nate and Reece and wishing them and YI well. We look forward to reading regular updates here on Kipper Central!
