Bombshell Report: Britain Could Be TRAPPED “Indefinitely” In Customs Union With May’s Deal
The Conservative government has published their full Brexit legal advice after they were yesterday found in contempt of court for witholding the document, revealing that Brtain could be trapped in negociations with the EU for years after the planned date of Brexit.
The legal advice, which was published this morning, reveals that Brtain could be stuck in “protracted and repeated rounds of negotiations” in the coming years as a result of May’s proposed EU Withdrawal Agreement.
In the report, the Attourney General, Geoffrey Cox MP, warns that May’s deal could leave Northern Ireland trapped “indefintely” in the Customs Union, as per the ‘Brexit backstop’ in May’s deal.
If Northern Ireland remains in the Customs Union, it will be treated internationally as a different traditing bloc to Britain, splitting up the United KIngdom on the international level.
It is also likely that many MPs will call for Britain to stay in the EU until Northern Ireland can leave too, meaing the UK could be trapped in the supranational bloc for many years longer than planned.
“In the absence of a right of termination, there is a legal risk that the United Kingdom might become subject to protracted and repeating rounds of negotiations,” it concludes.
“This risk must be weighed against the political and economic imperative on both sides to reach an agreement that constitutes a politically stable and permanent basis for their future relationship. This is a political decision for the government.”
