SHUT UP: Remoaning Lineker SLAPPED DOWN By BBC Colleagues

Gary Lineker has made no secret of his hostility to Brexit. The Match Of The Day host however bit off more than he could chew in a recent exchange with his hero, former England goalkeeper Peter Shilton.

Shilts who is a keen Brexiteer, wanted the Conservatives to put a new leader in place who “believes in Brexit”, and tweeted his support for Jacob Rees-Mogg:

Lineker, obviously unimpressed, tweeted that you should “never read a tweet from your hero.” However, he was promptly put back in his box. Cricket commentating legend, Jonathan Agnew told Lineker to keep his political views “to himself” and reminded him of BBC Editorial guidelines and claimed if he was as vocal as Lineker he would have been sacked. Aggers, who voted Remain, at least has the good grace to recognise the debate should be over:

Undeterred, Lineker “thanked” Aggers for his concern but said that he would carry on tweeting what he wanted too and suggested he only had a problem with the tweets because he didn’t agree with their content.

Leneker is a arrogant pr*ck. He should stick to football commentary because he knows FA about anything else.

  2. StuartJ says:

Honestly, who really cares about what these people say on Twitter?

I’m not on Twitter myself, but it seems it is all some kind of alternative reality. I honestly tire of ‘news reports’ that just consist of repeating what others post on Twitter., like it is something really important.

This isn’t of course a slur on KipperCentral, but journalism in general, in particular ‘local journalism’, where local news stories can be ‘reported’ on by simply quoting posts and comments from social media users.

Lineker is of course entitled to his opinion, which is no doubt influenced by his huge salary he receives from the BBC, which tells you all you really need to know. Honest opinion, or narrative propaganda? You decide!

I think he is a prick, that’s my honest opinion. 😉

  3. Must have nothing between his ears if he’s prepared to be so disliked after such a brilliant career.

  4. John Rutherford says:

For some bizarre reason he is paid £1.75 million by the BBC. If he was sacked it would help with the gender pay gap issue that the BBC is so obsessed with.

  5. Paulski says:

Why on earth does Gary Lineker think his opinion has any more worth than anyone else’s? His view on political issues should be treated in the same way that Gerard Batten’s would be on the premier league.

Just think if every remainer had behaved like Aggers did and accepted the result. We would be well on the way to leaving properly and society would be less fractured and febrile. Do the likes of Lineker even care though you must ask?

  6. MIKE MAUNDER says:

We all have our own point of view, and are able to put our view to anyone that is prepared to listen. Long may that continue, as it is the freedom of speech which is an important part of Democracy !
I would however suggest, that when the people have voted upon an item, and a National decision has been arrived at, then to continue arguing is anti-Democratic, and unhelpful to the Nation. – Freedom with responsibility is required !
Lineker is a Sports Commentator ! – I don’t go to a Solicitor if I need medical attention ! – Mr Lineker, we are not listening to you !

  7. Mike Smith says:

I have noticed that he is absent from recent Walker’s Crisps ads. Have they given him the boot? Hope so.

  8. Angryman says:

Perhaps my lone boycott of Walkers products has taken effect.
