“Extreme Change Is Needed!”: Special Forces Veteran Backs No-Deal Brexit To “Bring Back British Values”
Ex-Special Forces soldier Ant Middleton has added to the growing calls for a no-deal Brexit, claiming the full withdrawal would bring back “British values of loyalty and a sense of community”.
Middleton, who joined the military in 1997 at 16 years old, rose to fame in 2016 in his hit series ‘SAS: Who Dares Wins‘, in which he and three other military veterans ran a realistic military recruitment scheme for volunteers who tested themselves to see if they’d make it into the prestigious military unit.
Before becoming a household name from his TV work, Middleton served tours in Macedonia, Northern Ireland and Afghanistan before joining the Special Boat Service, where he served as a point man and a sniper for four years.
In a tweet which has since been deleted, Middleton wrote: “A ‘no deal’ for our country would actually be a blessing in disguise. It would force us into hardship and suffering which would unite & bring us together, bringing back British values of loyalty and a sense of community! Extreme change is needed!”
It has been reported that the government has stepped up preparations for a no-deal Brexit after Theresa May postponed parliament’s vote on her deal with the EU, which was expected to be rejected by parliament.
After deleting his previous tweet, Middleton added: “A great debate this weekend! That’s what Twitter is for & as per all my debates I draw a line under this one.
“I haven’t abused anyone so not cool to abuse! Just my opinion which we’re all allowed! A divided response, a divided government, a divided country!”
After Theresa May’s Vote Of Confidence last week, a number of public figures have come out in support of a no-deal Brexit, including Middleton and TV host Piers Morgan, who tweeted: “I’m warming to the idea of No Deal.
“Groper Juncker’s treating us like a bunch of mugs, May’s deal is a disaster & any 2nd referendum would just prolong & inflame the toxic Brexit bile & division. Britain voted to leave, so let’s properly leave – and then unite to make it work.”
