Sadiq Khan attracted much ire for his EU-themed New Years Eve fireworks display in London. However, unsurprisingly, it won him some friends in Brussels.

On Twitter, the chief Brexit co-ordinator, said that the display, which included superimposing the EU flag on the London Eye, sent a “powerful message”:

However, Brexiteers were distinctly unimpressed. David Kurten, UKIP London Assembly member said that Khan has “not got over” losing the Referendum. Andrew Bridgen,  Conservative MP  for North West Leicestershire, said: “It’s low, it’s very low to politicise what is an international public event. It’s a betrayal of democracy and it’s what we have come to expect from a very poor mayor of London.”

Roger Helmer,a former MEP, tweeted:

Neil Hamilton, leader of UKIP in Wales and a Welsh Assembly Member said that Khan was right when he said before the Referendum that if Britain voted for Brexit there is “no going back”:

On the plus side, this time next year, Mr Khan will be facing an imminent re-election battle……

  1. If anyone was in any doubt before, we now have concrete proof where Sadiq Khan’s priority lies – fireworks promoting the EU over homelessness and every other public service.

Khan just jumps on the elitist bandwagon and thinks he is clever.

  3. MIKE MAUNDER says:

Khan and most of his Labour Party mates are clearly unsure if their holes are bored or punched. In other words they don’t have anything to be taken any notice of. This is just a thought by me, but it is grounded upon sensible foundations.- Khan privately understands that he is a total failure as London Mayor.- There is a possibility that Brexit will be watered down, even derailed, so Khan wants to open the door for himself in the EU.- They deserve him ! The memory of Lord and Lady Kinnock still remains in the Labour mind, and Khan might get lucky in that direction. That goofy looking Verhofstadt is a real stepping stone for Khan !

Pity someone can’t find a law somewhere that deems such an action as criminal and Khan can get done for allowing it we should also have a ruling against using the Hybrid EURO/ Union Jack.

-“A powerful message. London will always be a European City!”

Actually, there is some truth in that. As London is the capital city of England / the UK, which is part of the continent of Europe, despite what happens with Brexit, London – as well as other UK cities – will continue to be a European city. Just as much as Geneva is a European city.

Anyway yes, the two big gripes here are:
    1) the continuing conflation of ‘Europe’ (the continent) and ‘European Union’ (the anti-democratic bureaucratic unelected dictatorship)
    2) Sadiq Khan (a revolting little weasel who doesn’t understand his place, he is simply the Mayor Of London, not a world leader)

I think it was a great idea make a giant eu flag and blow it up with fireworks, much better than burning a little flag!

  7. Aelfred says:

Verhostadt in on video ranting that popularism is unacceptable and must be stopped. i.e. democracy by people for the people is wrong. He as all EU types are either unbalanced, evil or both. khan is an incompetent mayor who has close ties to Islamic extremists. He knows full well that uncontrolled mass migration suits the EU and his personal agenda.

  8. Anthony Taylor says:

People should realize that for Khan to “honour” his words, he would have to renege on the principals of Taqiiya.

    Pigs will fly first!

  9. Chris Dark says:

The way immigration is going, London is anything but European…
