  2. Number of counter-demonstrators in London on the same day.
  3. Number of incidents of violence and arrests made at the ‘Brexit Betrayal March’.

SEARCHES TO LOCATE INFORMATION

To locate the information relevant to your request, searches were conducted within the MPS which located relevant information.

DECISION

I have today decided to disclose the located information to you in full below:-

  1. Number of demonstrators at the ‘Brexit Betrayal March’ in London on 9/12/18.

The number of demonstrators at the ‘Brexit Betrayal March’ in London on 09/12/2018 was estimated by the MPS to be approximately 5,000.

  1. Number of counter-demonstrators in London on the same day.

The MPS estimated the number of counter-demonstrators to the above event to be approx. 1,000.

  1. Number of incidents of violence and arrests made at the ‘Brexit Betrayal March’.

There were nil arrests at this event.  The MPS cannot quantify the number of ‘incidents of violence’, but may be able to research the number of assaults reported.

  1. Number of incidents of violence and arrests made at the counter-demonstration.

There were three (3) arrests at this event.  The MPS cannot quantify the number of ‘incidents of violence’, but may be able to research the number of assaults reported.

The Met Police have confirmed that they estimated approximately 5,000 Brexit supporters were at the march and there were approximately 1,000 counter protesters. The Met Police have also confirmed that there were no arrests made at the Brexit march but there were 3 arrests made at the counter protest. This proves that the mainstream media and local press will distort and misrepresent true events to fit their own narrative.

Although there clearly appears to be more than 5,000 seen in footage of the march, we are pleased that the Met Police have confirmed that there were more Brexit supporters than there were counter protesters contrary to reports in the media and claims made by the Guardian journalist, Owen Jones. I have asked Owen Jones for comment but he has not responded yet.

Kind regards,

Ian A Rogers
